Why I'm Running

Many people decide to run for the board for different reasons. Some feel they need to fix a broken system, some have a specific change that they are looking to make, some want to do something different, and others will have their own reason.

While these are all good reasons to join a board, my reason for joining is to support and enhance the positive work of the board. I have great respect for each board member for their dedication to making positive changes for our school system and community on their own time. My decision to run is not to disparage anyone, but to be positive because if elected, we are a team. More will get done as a team that works together.

I will never pretend to know everything. I will never pretend to have all the answers. I will never assume my way is the only way. I will never promise we will always see it the same way.

Here is what I WILL do:

  • I WILL listen.

  • I WILL hear the concerns, suggestions, and feedback amd bring it back to the board.

  • I WILL try to get you an answer.

  • I WILL always put my children and our village (ESM) first.

Your voice is as important as my voice and my voice is as important as your voice. As a voice at the table, I will always bring you into the conversation, whether you are in the room or not. I will share your concerns and constructive criticism as well as your positive feedback.

I am a strong supporter of ESM and value the community that we belong to. That is why I believe it is time for me to take on a larger role in our educational system at ESM.

"As a voice at the table, I will always bring you into the conversation whether you are in the room or not."

My Philosophy

When I think about our children's overall education, I feel the best results are achieved by a three-legged stool approach. The three legs of the stool are parents/guardians, administration/teachers/BOE, and the students. All three legs are needed for success to be achieved.

As a parent when I see all the positive stories coming from all the schools from the students themselves at the board meetings (Tuttle Cares, student ambassadors filled with pride, and athletes representing themselves so well) I feel that is the 3 legged stool working.

I believe the Capital project has been an overall great project and success for the community thanks to all involved (some hurdles and hiccups for sure but my opinion that’s with any project). There has been some concerns surrounding project deadlines. I do believe with my background in business that I would have helpful contributions. My knowledge of how to meet deadlines, organization, and how to work through and with others to get the job done I feel is a strength of mine.

I think communication has gotten tremendously better. There are more ways than ever to find out what’s going on.

Do I believe more work needs to be done?…yes and always will be needed!

That’s where I want to come in. To build upon the systems. Each year and period of time will have its own set of issues. So when you ask me what do I plan to continue fighting for, my answer is whatever issues are on the table. The issues are for the 3 legged stool to decide and for the board to address.

I want to continue to figure out ways to keep the community engaged and informed. I want us to all work together to tackle whatever issues arise year to year and to help implement systems that ensure we only have to deal with a specific issue once.

At the end of the day, I am a parent who wants to take on a bigger role in the community for my kids and all of our kids. That is my sole agenda.

My Priorities

In our district, there are some policies that I feel should always be prioritized and continuously improved upon. Here are some of the key policies that in my opinion require ongoing attention and enhancements.

Open and Informative Communication

It is important to prioritize transparent and effective communication that flows between the district and the community. Regular updates, clear guidelines, and timely information should be provided to parents, students, and staff members. This will ensure that everyone is well-informed about important matters. I believe we need to keep this top of mind at all times

Addressing Bullying and
Promoting Respect

It is important to prioritize policies that address bullying effectively, ensuring that students feel safe and supported. To me, this includes fostering a culture of respect and empathy among students.

Collaborative Decision-Making

Involving each leg of the 3 legged stool (parents, teachers/administration /BOE, students in the decision-making process is vital. Prioritizing policies that encourage collaboration and active participation from all parties fosters a sense of shared responsibility for the success of our district and our policies

Special Education

One of the key steps to address the concerns in special education is to actively listen to the voices of frustrated parents. By creating open lines of communication, we can understand their specific needs and challenges. This will help us to develop targeted solutions that meet the individual requirements of each child.

Collaboration is another crucial aspect in addressing the issues in special education. Using the three-legged stool approach, which involves the collaboration between parents, educators, and students, allows us to leverage different perspectives and thoughts. Together, we can create a comprehensive plan that ensures every child receives the necessary resources and accommodations.

However, listening and collaboration alone are not enough. It is essential to execute a well-thought out plan that places the best interests of our children at the forefront. This requires implementing evidence-based strategies and to continuously evaluate and adapting our approach to meet the evolving needs of students.

By prioritizing the concerns raised by the community, actively involving all three legs and implementing effective strategies, we can create an inclusive and supportive environment for children with special needs. We can ensure and must ensure that every child receives the quality education and support they deserve, empowering all of the children in our village to reach their full potential.

More Than A Candidate

Husband

I consider myself incredibly fortunate in love since marrying my wife, Nicole, twelve years ago. Our relationship is characterized by an unwavering love and support, resulting in a deep bond based on trust, empathy, and dedication to one another.

Father

As a father, I prioritize my children above all else, demonstrating boundless love and care. Whether it be cheering my boys on from the sidelines during sporting events, accompanying them on field trips, or attending school functions, I consistently place their interests at the forefront. Instilling values of kindness and respect, I ensure that my children possess these qualities on a daily basis.

Leader

I lead by example, motivating my team to achieve their full potential by fostering an environment of trust and support, empowering individuals to take initiative. I exhibit compassion and integrity to bring out the best in those around me. I actively listen to the ideas and perspectives of my team members, collaborating to determine the most effective path forward.

Businessman

I'm an empathetic businessman who builds strong relationships with my employees and customers. I take the time to understand different perspectives when making decisions that impact people's lives. My compassion enables me to bring out the best in those around me while running an ethical and caring company.

Coach

Affectionately referred to as Coach Mike by some, I am known for an encouraging and patient coaching style. Rather than solely focusing on winning, I emphasize the importance of fundamental skills and good sportsmanship. It is important to me to create enjoyable practice sessions that captivate and inspire children, fostering a genuine love for sports.
